2007-12-13 | Government's thrown away the obstacles on the way of provision of location data
In order to ensure the provision of location data in case of emergency call to the number 112, today the Government adopted the resolution stating the order of compensation of expenditures related to purchase, installation (adaptation), update and maintenance of location data equipment, incurred by public network operators.

According to this order, public network operators having purchased necessary equipment would provide the Emergency Response Centre (ERC) with location data (E112) free of charge and expenditures irrelative to the routine business but indispensable for the provision of location data, would be compensated by the State.

Once the appropriate technical solutions are installed, location data would be provided together with emergency calls to the ERC. This would enable the ERC to respond to emergencies in more prompt and accurate way, so that emergency service would reach a place of emergency more quickly.

Estimations indicate that up to 6 M Litas will be required to install the location data equipment and up to 1 M Litas to maintain this equipment every year.

It is planned that public network operators will be ready to provide the location data in February or March next year.
